Last year saw Nottinghamshire FWAG take over the sponsorship for the Nottinghamshire Farm Environment Award following 16 years of support from Wilko Retail. The awards run with the support of the NFU, continued to be as successful as ever in seeking out excellent farm conservation practices from around the county.
Paul Redgate, Nottinghamshire FWAG’s recently appointed chairman says: “I want this year, my first in post, to carry on the fantastic tradition of this competition in awarding Nottinghamshire’s farmers for their outstanding environmental work. We are sure the winning formula of a simple entry form, followed by on site judging will continue to attract many farmers and reward quality conservation on commercial farms in the county.”
A first prize of £500 with a specially-commissioned commemorative award will be presented to the winner of this year’s competition with a second prize of £150 and certificate. The prizes will be awarded across all entries, so farms and holdings of all types and sizes are eligible to apply, provided the business is run on a commercial basis in Nottinghamshire.
Paul Redgate adds: “In these uncertain times I feel the awards are an excellent way for farmers to demonstrate how much they are doing to help wildlife on their farms by providing the habitats in which wildlife can nest, feed and shelter. I know there is so much being done on farms and the awards are a valuable part of demonstrating this.”
Entries for the awards will close on Monday 19th June, with on-farm judging taking place in early July. Application forms can be obtained from Lesley Sharpe on 07707 220121, your local NFU office, the NFU’s regional office (01572 824250), or downloaded from the East Midlands FWAG website.
